TOPIC: mortgage payments

mortgage payments 7 years 4 months ago #14540

Hi i joined this forum a couple of months ago and now need a little advice please.

I made a claim for ESA on 31st August I had my medical in December and passed and was put in the support group.

What i need to know is how many weeks have i to be on it before the mortage interest gets paid. i only have a small mortage so have been managing to pay it myself so far.

Will i get a letter telling me what is being paid and when?

Thank you

if your mortgage began after 1 October 1995 I think that you will start getting housing costs after the first 39 weeks.

But it would be worth checking this with the DWP.

Good luck,

Hi Steve and ssusandobim.

Sorry to tread in on this but the rules changed on 5th Jan 2009 and many new unlinkable claims(to prior to that date) can get ELIGIBLE Housing Costs included in their applicable amount for ESA (income related), and other relevant benefits after 13 weeks.

The rules aren't simple as to what are eligible Housing costs , nor are the linking rules , but i'd see what DWP say and go to an advice agency to delve into this further.
see DWP DMG Memo 01/09 para's 11-16
