Hello

I have another question. Further up this thread I was told that there is no points criteria for the Medical Assessment by ATOS in the final decision that is made and this is only for the ESA side of things. I have requested all paperwork from my medical as I am going to appeal.

One item of paperwork I received was a 3-paged document marked up "Decision Maker's Scoresheet" and it is clearly marked on it that it relates to the report repeated by the nurse I saw on 15 September 2010 for my work related medical.

Can anyone explain the significance of this? By the way I score 18 points altogether on this, but I think this should be more and I am questioning that too.

Thanks

There is a full explanation of the medical (Work Capability Assessment) in the physical and mental health ESA documents in the members section.

There are potentially two sets of tests carried out at the WCA. The first is based on the ESA50 document that you filled in. You can score points for each test and if you score more than 15 points in total then you are placed in the WRAG, as you have.

The second test is not points based, you need to meet the criteria for one or more of the tests, descibed in the above documents. If you do, then you are placed in the Support Group.

Hope this makes it clearer.

Steve

Hi Pusscat

To qualify for the Work-Related Activities Group, you only need to score 15 points. As you have already achieved this, and are appealing to get into the Support Group, the number of points you can score is irrelevant. Increasing the number of points you score will not get you into the Support Group; there is a separate test.

There should be a page on your ESA85 medical report titled Limited Capability for Work-Related Activities. This is the test that you need to pass to qualify for the Support Group. As Steve just mentioned, it is not based on points, just one descriptor must apply for you to qualify.

The Decision Makers Report/Scoresheet is useful if it contains any information not on the medical report, or highlights the information on the medical report that the DM relies upon.

I really think that you need face-to-face advice for your appeal. It is not possible to get all the help or advice you need from a message board like this. A welfare rights officer will be able to look at the documentation and properly consider your circumstances.

Best wishes

Derek

Hello

Thanks for those replies they are most helpful. Having a sleepless night tonigh so I'm still up!

I do meet a descriptor for being placed in the Support Group and have got all my documents ready to appeal except for a letter from my doc which I'm hoping will be ready to collect from my surgery when I go for my flu-jab on Saturday.

I'm very happy with everything I have prepared for the appeal and am going to go ahead with it.

Thanks again

Pusscat :)
