DLA and retirement age was created by Alan
Hi
I now get the maximum in both Mobility and Carers allowance.

I am 63 years old.

What happens when I reach 65 years old. Does DLA still continue to be paid into retirement?

Hi Alan,

If your are in reciept of DLA before you reach retirement age you will still be entitled to DLA provided you continue to meet the criteria of both awards.

Hi Alan, I've just been looking into this for a friend.

You don't get DLA if you are over 65 but can claim Attendance Allowance.

Best wishes,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

If a claimant is awarded DLA before they reach the age of 65, then as Kathy has stated, they remain on DLA after reaching 65, subject to meeting the criteria.

Once a claimant reaches 65, then if they have care needs, they have to claim
Attendance Allowance.

Hope this clarifies things.

Kind regards.

Jim
