can anyone help please was created by McGoggy
Just a quick question. Is anyone aware of any list or document ATOS/DWP use to "rate" illnesses and help them decide into what group claimants are placed. If there is such a thing, is it accessible to view?
I am asking because I haved a very rare condition and it's going to be unlikely that whoever deals with my case will have any knowledge of it.
Thanks.

They won't rate you on what you have but on how it affects you, for example MS some people work full time others in support group.

Under old rules being blind would get you as not having to even fill in an IB50 next April some will be found fit to work IMO

What is it thats "rare" ? if you don't mind me asking ..... there is nothing listed in the last few years stats where only one person had something

rarest thing I found on ONS stats was cancer of the eye lid :)

Hi Elaine

For ESA purposes, claimants are assessed on their ability or inability to undertake the activities in the Work Capacity Assessment. Claimants do not qualify for a particular group purely because of their illness as illnesses can vary.

Although the following source of information is for DLA and AA, you may find it helpful.

A-Z of medical conditions

No Dave I don't mind you asking. The condition I have was referred to as "my surname syndrome for many years. I went to loads of hospitals, numerous departments and saw many consultants of various specialties. Eventually professor of rheumatlogy labelled it retro peritoneal fibrosis, retractile mesenteritis and desmoid tumours. I have had other names mentioned over the years, all types of connective tissue disease.
