incorrect letter sent from consultant to gp?

Hi.
We are slowly working our way through the maze of why the full DLA in place for 2 yrs has been reduced to only the lowest rate DLA care with no mobility.
A letter from an orthapoedic consultant sent to our gp July 2010 stated that my husband had no problems with mobility despite being told he needed a knee replacement and since his critical illness - septic shock cannot be operated on due to heart valve damage. Peter attended this appointment in a wheelchair and just walked the last 10 steps into the consulting room. This letter was sent my our gp attached to the form the DLA sent for his completion. This is the first time we have seen this letter and it is so incorrect it isnt true, but what can we do about it. any ideas.

I would write to your GP and copy the letter tothe dr at the hospital saying that you think the letter is wrong and why you think it is wrong and ask them both to comment to a consultant seeing people who cant get out of the chair in his head ten steps is good

also you say he is in a wheel chair ? did you just buy it ? or was it offered by gp or a hospital dr? because if so the paper trail from getting the wheel chair would help very much IMO

Thank you will get a letter off straight away. We had to but Peter's wheelchair as though the hospital supplied lots of equipment we would have had to rent a wheelchair. They also arranged for age concern to make lots of adjustments to our house rails, handles shower seats etc.

I think you mean "buy" ? did they say you should buy it and if so did they say so to you and GP in a report ? that if so would be a big help .... tell them all you said above

Another thing you could do, delphinium, is to ask for a copy of your GP and hospital notes, because there may be something else in there that supports your husband's claim.

In particular, why was a joint replacement being considered at all if there were no mobility problems? If the heart condition is so severe as to preclude surgery, why is that not potentially a mobility problem?

Peter had was on the waiting list for knee replacement before, he developed septic shock, and multi organ failure. He critically ill with this bacterial infection for months and suffered damage to his mitral valve, also infection in cervical spine which crumbled and compressed the spinal cord. He had spine rebuilt and cerebral abcess drained. This has led to limb weakness, heart failure. Because of heart and bone infection they don't want to operate on his knee. We are waiting a report from the consultant surgeon who operated on him.
