Advice please DLA renewal was created by carole
I saw a benefit advisor last week for help with my renewal, he has helped me in the past. Only this time i felt he was ofhand and he confused me so much. I had filled in the form as much as i could with as much detail being as accurate as i possibly could following the guides on this site. I wanted his help with the "how long" boxes and the question on "how long can you safely be left for" He said however i didnt need to write so much and leave that question and page blank. He also put on some of the boxes 1 or 2 times without asking me anything at all, and only flipped through what i had written.I have had so much anxiety over this all weekend and dont know what to do. He said i should get the benefit renewed and if i dont he would help with an appeal. I have long term smi with additional physical problems and cant think straight about this form, any advice please

Hi,

Although we generally advocate getting help from an adviser, it sounds as if he/she may have not been the best or having a bad day etc.

However regardless of what the adviser put in the boxes, if you think it is incorrect you can change it, if for example help is required more than the one or two times the adviser wrote then put down how many times help is needed.

Also it is worth completing all the information boxes (and even giving continuity sheets if your answer doesn't fit in the box). It may mean repeating your answers in some cases but that isn't a problem if it explains your care or mobility needs.

You are of course at liberty to obtain help from another source if you are not satisied with the adviser. You can use a CAB, Law Centre, DIAL or Commiunity Legal Advice etc to find a different adviser.
