I have recieved the ESA50 form to complete for migration from IB to ESA - would I be judged any differently if I typed out my responces on the online form and printed it out rather than filling the form out by hand?

There is no technical reason why cannot do this, however, if you are claiming you have issues with sitting or concentration, the ATOS HCP might make assumptions as a result, so it would be worth explaining why you have done this and include the time each day that you worked on the document.

Hope this helps

Hi Calan,

I am in the middle of filling in my ESA50 form too and I have chosen to download and type it. Because of musculoskeletal problems, I find it easier to type than write by hand and it is quicker, so I don't have to sit for so long. I shall make a note of that on my form.

I would strongly recommend typing the form because it is so handy just to be able to save however small an amount you write each time, then go back to it later. It is also so easy to change anything if you later think of a better way of saying something or if you realise you have made a mistake.

Good luck!

I am filling in the form for my husband who has MS and has had a stroke. Can I type the responses, print them out and stick them in the boxes on the manual form? He can only just sign his name.

Yes you can, but do not feel you have to be limited to answering within the space available.

You may find it easier to simply insert your answers on seperate A4 sheets with appropriate numbering to relate them back to the form.

If you do this make sure that the sheets are firmly attached to the ESA50, so that they cannot easily become detached or removed.

Remember to copy the form, before returning it.

Many thanks. I have downloaded the form and done it on the PC which means I can fit more in and it still looks neat! Don't want to irritate the person reading it do I???? :-)

I have to say as an able bodied, vaguely intelligent person who has been involved with disability both professionally and personally for approx 34 years I find this whole process exhausting! I reckon I have committed about 3 to 4 days completing the form thoroughly. I resent being made to feel we have been scrounging benefits for the last 30 years when in practice as a carer I have saved the government thousands of pounds! hey ho....bitterness gets you nowhere..just have to go with the flow!
