Jobseekers/ESA was created by wendatk
Hi
My daughter will be 18 in June and she has aspergers with ongoing mental health issues, she self harms.

She would not be able to hold down a job or be able to work with people due to her problems.

Now if she was to apply for jobseekers she is obviously going to be turned down isnt she as she will not be actively looking for work so do I just go for the ESA.

I do worry about what is going to happen espcially with all the changes in the benefits that are going to eventually happen.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I am at my wits ends trying to see what route to go down.

Whilst I am sure that some people with Aspergers are able to work, if you feel your daughter is unable to do so, then there is no reason why you should not claim ESA on her behalf.

Please have a look at our ESA guides in the Members area to get an understanding of the process and how to relate her condition to the tests.

If you have more questions, please come back to the forum.

Thank you Gordon. Yes i agree most people with aspergers can work but my daughter has big problems socially and with her on going mental problems along with the self harming its a worry. I forgot to mention in my first post also that she is waiting to see a neurologist as she suffered a seizure not long ago. She does not go out unless with myself.
