Slight Confusion here- Help please was created by dribble
Hello everyone...I have been on IB for exactly 20 years this year.

I received a ESA50 some weeks ago and it has to be in by next week. I have really stuggled to get help and also understand the form I have.

I did print some documents off of here but when I compared them to my form there was nothing about Bending and kneeling.

Of which I can't do either...

So what do I do as I clearly won't get points for not being able to do them.

Also I am doubly incontinent, but not at the same time, thankfully.

I did go to my Continence advisor some years ago but they said they was nothing they can do.

It has consequently got worse, what with not being able to get up the stairs and I absolutely hate going to my G.P.

I did as advised on here, typed a letter and went in with it. GP very dismissive and now I am distraught not knowing what to do.

I am surrounded by dozens of bits of written paper and can't get to get them into any order at all.

I look completely normal of course which of course I am not!

I asked the GP for a report but they refused and said they would wait for the benefits agency to contact them.

I have just got a letter from the Continence people here and am on a 16 week waiting list.

I am feeling pretty down and can't see the woods for the tree's right now.

Thanks for reading this....

Hi Dribble

I'm really sorry to hear you're having such a stressful time of it. I've just done an ESA50 form (well, someone did it for me) so I know from very recent experience how difficult it all is!

I don't have an answer to your specific questions, although there is a place on the form to write about incontinence issues, and you can explain about being on a waiting list to see the consultant.

There is also a question that asks about picking up light objects like empty boxes. This might well involve bending if the boxes are on the floor, so you could use this question as an opportunity to explain about your problems with bending.

You should also be able to explain about your problems with stairs, as there is a question about going up steps.

Would it be possible to see another GP in your practice who might be more sympathetic? If there is no one, a solution for the longer term might be to consider finding a new practice - you might get advice from a local charity or forums as to well-regarded doctors in your area for your specific health problems.

Mainly I just wanted to reply to your post to let you know you're not alone, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thinking of you. Have you got anyone who could come over and help you make sense of the paperwork? Sometimes all it takes is another pair of eyes and a bit of talking it over to get to feeling much better about it all.

regards
Rainbowlight

Have you tried to get face to face advice from your local CAB or Welfare Rights office, they can help you fill the form in?

With regard to the guides, it sounds like you are using the old versions as the bending and reaching tests were removed at the end of March, so it would be worth having a look at the new ones in the Members area.

With regard to your doctor, unfortunately many GPs belive that they cannot produce a report for a patient, which is not the case, perhaps you could see them again and explain that the DWP do not always request this information and that it is important that their evidence is available to the Decision Maker. You may have to pay.

If the GP will still not produce a report, then you can request your medical records from the Practice Manager, again a fee may be payable, but should not be more than £50.

If you don't think you can get the ESA50 returned on time, then you should contact the DWP and ask for an extension.

If we can help further, please come back to the forum.

Thanks for the reply Rainbowlight.

I feel as though I have been fobbed off by the doctors. It is as though they are not listening.
I do have someone that is going to help me later this week.

I am hoping it is enough. I shall just have too add as much as I can.

Maybe my form isn't a new one. I was going to ring them, but though they might wonder how I would know.!

I shall let you know how I get on. Thanks

Hello Gordon,

thank you for the reply.

I went to CAB here and they said they don't deal with these forms!

Then went to the Advice Centre where I was given a telling look....Both the advisers told me that they WERE NOT ALLOWED to help me and could only help it I got as far as going to Appeal!!!!!!
Says a lot doesn't it.

I haven't long moved and the GP surgery is just around the corner from me, others are much further away.

I also contacted the housing association for help and was told today that they couldn't find the original paper work that I 'supposedly' wrote about my condition...

Anyway, shall plod on and see how far I get.

Thanks for the reply.

dribble....

Hopefully I shall get it all in on time.
