I've noticed that some people have been advised to get their medical notes. Could someone please tell me what they can be used for - would they just not be copies of things i've gone to see my Gp for (as well as the illness i've had for 20yrs that i'm claiming ESA for). I'm not really sure what I could use them for as I would be writing down what is wrong with me on the form and hopefully my GP will write a letter for me as well. Or would I attach a copy of 20 years notes (alot) to the back of the form? Also, I've enquired about my notes and told that I MIGHT be able to get them but it would take a month approx. This is worrying as my form is to be in in a month - if I found anything 'helpful' in notes I don't suppose I could send a copy to them after sending the form?

Most people resort to using their medical notes, because they are unable to obtain more up to date reports from their GP and/or Consultants, or, those reports are not as detailed or relevant as the claimant had hoped.
Your medical notes will not just contain entries from your GP, but will also include letters from your Consultants detailing any examinations they have carried out. There will be a record of your medication, which may be useful in supporting the degree to which an illness or disability affacts you.
Lastly, they would be helpful in showing how long you have suffered from an illness or disability, which again can be an important point for a claim.
