DLA & Chemotherapy was created by janek
My husband had an op for bowel cancer last October and started a 6 month course of 'precautionary' chemo in January. He made a claim for DLA in March which has just been refused, despite supporting letters from his Oncologist and GP. Is it worth appealing this decision? I ask this as he will shortly finish the chemo and should hopefully start to get back on his feet - we have been told that full recovery could take anything up to a year, but he is hoping to return to work next month. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Janek,

The test for DLA is that the care or mobility needs must have lasted for 3 months at the time of an award and be likely to last for another 6.

If your husband's condition fits these criteria then there is no reason why he should not put in an appeal.

Good luck,

Steve
