ESA success! was created by elise214
I want to thank you all at Benefits and Work for the superbly written guides to filling in that grim ESA50. I was awarded Support group immediately, no medical,no appeal, phew!
I must admit I secretly expected it but as my husband and I have spent the last 33 years finding ways around my MS problems, trying to make each day as "normal" as possible, it was a jolt to see that someone could see just how disabled/unabled I really am.
Thank you once again.

Hi Elise

Congratulations and thanks for letting us know.

It's been quite a good day for claim/appeal results today.

Don't forget that in the support group if you are on income related ESA you are entitled to the enhanced disability allowance and my be further payments if you claim DLA at the higher or medium rate.
I am so happy for you.

Thank you for joining in with my sucess and relief.

I get the contribution based ESA, high rate care and mobility (Motability get the mobility element), plus a pathetic local government pension, so it seems I am going to be a taxpayer again as well as having to pay contribution towards council tax! Grrrr! talk about paying out with one hand and grabbing back with the other.

My husband is my carer and we get the help with healthcare, thank heavens.

Do you know if it possible to change onto the income related instead of contribution ESA? My husband retires next month with only about 12 years NI contributions and will have to wait until 2014 to get a pension based on my NI record, we haven't explored the Pension Credit route yet.

Any suggestios will be more than welcome.

Many thanks
Elise

You need to speak to an adviser at your local CAB or Welfare Rights Office, who can sit down with you and work out what you would receive if you were able to move to ESA(IR).

Good luck

Thank you Gordon,
I will take your advice and see the CAB asap.
Thank you for your help and support.

Isn't it bad enough having a disability without going through all the various hoops that we're made to jump through and being made to feel guilty about being unable and asking for support?

Thanks again
Elise
