I suggest you contact your local CAB where you can tell them what you are claiming and explain in greater detail the benefits you receive.

Hi jacibee

You didn't say what benefit it is in connection with. If savings and home ownership is not relevant to your entitlement to benefit then it's possible that you will not be asked.

However it's not uncommon for the DWP to ask questions that seem to have little relevance (such as 'do you drive?') and if you refuse to answer your entitlement to benefit may be referred to a decision maker.

Hope this is helpful

jacibee,

If your IB is non-contributry, or you receive IS Top Up premiums due to your receipt of DLA (Care).

Any capital over £6000 could be taken into account,

Also if you receive an occupational pension over £85/week, you could be liable to deductions if in receipt of contributry IB also.

DLA is not affected. When looking at savings I can only comment on income based ESA. As you will be probably moved to ESA dependent on your age the following applies.

1. ESA income based. There is a lower and higher rate of savings. The lower rate is £6000 and the higher rate £16000. If you are over the higher rate you will not receive ESA(income based).
2. If under the lower rate then you will continue to receive full benefit.
3. For every £250 over the £6000 and below the £16000 £1 will be deducted from your benefit.

If you or your husband qualify for pension tax credits, this depends on your age the deduction from savings alters from £1 per 250 to £1 to 500.
Either of you can claim but I would advise professional advice before doing so.
