incapacity to esa medical in france was created by windmill20
I moved to France in February this year and the dreaded brown envelope arrived in May I have just had a letter telling me that they are sending me for a medical in France this will be the first medical I have attended as I have only been on incapacity for 2 years. Has anyone any experience of a medical in France and what can I expect. Thanks

Hi windmill20,

We certainly have had people in France have medicals - if not for ESA then definitely for IB. If you search the forum you may find something.

Hi Windmill20
I am in Spain and had a medical for ESA 18 months or so ago. The medical was face to face with a private english doctor and he followed the paper version of the ESA medical. I feel this meant he listened to my answers to each question and recorded them accurately and it was therefore much better than the ATOS computerised system. The medical took quite a long time but was infact a positive experience. He ended the medical by saying that as far as he was concerned I was definately not fit for work, but unfortunately he didn't make that decision. Thankfully the DWP decision maker agreed with him.
Good luck

Hi Windmill 20,

I too have received the dreaded brown envelope. At present I am trying to
fill in the ESA-N-50 France.
Then have to take it to the doctor.

Afther you returned your form how long did it take for you to receive the letter for the medical?

Hello Windmill20 and Worried, sorry to hear you have both received the dreaded brown envelope.

We live in France, and it is my wife who is in receipt of IB, she not yet received the brown envelope, going on the old IB schedule she should not be due a review until the middle of next year. If you would not mind asnwering, when were your review dates due? A lady who posted recently who lives in Sweden said her review was 4 months overdue before she received her brown envelope.

Regarding the medical in France, you are entitled to have a medical in the UK as opposed to having it carried out in France. I am not sure which would be the best case scenario, if you were to have the medical in France carried out by either an English doctor, or an English speaking French doctor, then knowing what to expect from ATOS in the UK, I guess France would be the best option. If you are confronted with a French speaking doctor, and your French is not sufficiently fluent to get your case across, then I guess the best option would be to have the medical in the UK.

If you were to lose your IB then obviously your E121 will go with it along with your healthcare cover in France. All scary stuff. Depending on how long you have lived in France as it stands at the moment you would be obliged to take out private health insurance, which I think you will find impossible having pre-existing conditions, still I guess the ConDems couldn't give a **** about that. I am not sure if you are aware but the EU have deemed it illegal for France to preclude you from joining CMU, and things are supposedly changing but knowing how slow things move in France, I do not know when the changes will come into effect.

Best of luck to both of you.

Hi,

my review was dud in Dec 2010. Received the form and filled it out and had to take it to my doctor to sign the Statement by the customers general practitioner which he did. Returned the forms and heard nothing. Then 2 weeks ago received the ESA-N-50 in the post. I rang newcastle and was told the other form I completed at chrismas was irrelivant and I had to fill this in and get my doctor to sign it.

Feeling really stressed and worried. I think it is just a way of getting people off benefit.
Any advise is helpful as I cannot think straight and the french system is so different.
