Never simple..... was created by Darkskies
Hello!
I know that I am naive, but having successfully appealed my claim I assumed that weekly payments would resume from the week following the tribunal decision, and that 'backpay' would be a formality. I answered the questions fully (I did not claim any benefits during the time that my IB had been stopped nor did anyone else claim any extra benefits relating to me - nor did I perform any paid work) and highlighted the fact that I live with my mother who has been paying the general bills. I therefore expected to receive the amount for just over one year (time without IB) - but I have received a cheque equal to about one month. Have I made an error somewhere, or has someone else grossly miscalculated?

Best wishes, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Did you continue to provide sick notes for the period between lodging your appeal and the hearing?

Hello.
I was never told that sick notes were required as it was an appeal regarding an existing, long-term claim. I assumed that since the tribunal's decision overturned the original decision in june 2010 that payments should be back-dated to that date. Regarding doctor's notes - I have very rarely been asked for any notes, the last time being 2007. I have always assumed that it was due to the progressive, long-term nature of my problems. As you can tell, I am utterly out-of-date regarding the new procedures.....
Thankyou for any advice.

Best wishes, Stephen.

Have you confirmed that this is the only payment that you are going to receive, as payments of this type are usually made in two components.

The first is the re-instatement of your 4 weekly payments.

Secondly, you will receive a payment for any backdated monies that you are owed, this second payment can be several weeks after the first because of the way the DWP payment system work.

Hello.
Yes Gordon, that is probably what it is - the first payment of reinstatement. I just assumed (you would think at the age of 41, that I would be aware of the dangers of assumptions  ) that weekly payments would resume the week following the tribunal - I have probably 'jumped to the wrong conclusion'.....nothing new about that, though! Hopefully the actual 'back-pay' will arrive in the near future as you said. Thankyou all for your advice, it is very much appreciated.

Best wishes, Stephen.
