Hi,I`m in receipt of HRM & MRC DLA,plus IB.I was wondering if anyone has advice re going abroad on holiday? I have won a fantastic prize which my dtr,who is my carer, will share with me if I go.My current claim is based on back problems. My renewal is due in November & will be based on that, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia & costochondritis Thanks :)

Hi suzi

Firstly congratulations on winning a holiday. Theres nothing to stop you going whilst in receipt of HRM & MRC DLA & IB however the DWP may try to say that flying or enjoying activities on holiday means that you are more capable than you claim. Jealous people do report matters to the DWP so be aware.

As long as you feel this is a risk worth taking then I hope you will enjoy the prize. As your daughter is your carer you could argue later, if necessary that she did all the caring when you were away and without her you could not have managed to go away.

Regards

Michael

apart from dwp needing to be told make sure you get travel insurance that has all your health problems disclosed to the company or you wont get treatment if taken sick

this link has a list of companies at the bottom of the page

I should have said I believe the rules are that you may be able to continue to get these benefits provided your stay is no longer than 26 weeks and that you must inform the DWP as your get IB

Great news on your win. It maybe worth notifying your travel company of any special needs for your journey, regarding access, aisle seat, need to move after being seated for a length of time. Also that your carer will accompany you.
Cover the bases.

Enjoy your holiday.

Hi suzi,

Congratulations on winning the holiday, hope you have a very relaxing time.

I don't want to put a dampener on things but it will not do any harm if you are aware of any potential for future problems in taking holidays, as other posters have highlighted.

Have a look on this thread, it may enlighten you.
