DLA renewal claim when 18 years old. was created by jerishybred
My daughter is profoundly deaf but against all the odds is managing to do well in her A levels, achieving good AS results in August. Her DLA was granted until she was 18 at middle rate mobility, which is later this year. She has now no hearing at all in one ear and less than 30% in the other.
My question is how do I justify her continuing DLA need given that she is,in a lots of instances outperforming her 'hearing enabled' peers?

As this appears to be your first post, welcome to the forum.

I'm a bit confused by your post as there is no middle rate for mobility, so I assume you mean the lower rate, which would be consistent with some one who is deaf.

I can understand why you are concerned about your daughters renewal, but her success at school does not mean that she is any less eligible for DLA.

Just as you did on her previous application, I assume the issues are supervision while out of doors, and amongst others, communicating with others. Unless there has been a significant change in her abilities in these areas, there is no reason to assume that she won't be granted DLA again.

Have a look at our Claiming DLA on Physical Grounds guide in the Members Only area, I would also recommend you have a look at the web sites for some of the UK deaf organisations, as they may be able to offer more specialist help.

If you have more questions, please come back to the forum.
