ASPERGERS DENIED SUPPORT GROUP BY PHONE was created by ENIGMA125
I filled in esa 50 correctly with the help of this site.i was recently assessed with aspergers with severe anxiety .which was a very detailed assassment where tests were given to me over 4 x 90 min periods.in the esa 50 form I answered question 16 about social situations only as that was the only question that related to me.i cannot face anyone I know or don't know without severe anxiety.i have studied this sites most detailed inormation even the wca handbook used by the decision makers indicating that I should be put in the support group.i sent a copy of the two page summary of my 7 page aspergers report.a lady on the phone told I would be in the work related activity group.i told her that decision was wrong that I should be in the support group.she told me when I get the letter to write to the decision maker again or appeal.i tried to get her to sort it out there and then but failed.i have been sick all day worrying about this but mainly very angry that they have not stuck to their own guidelines.the supporting evidence is solid.the guidelines have not been used in my case and it is causing me distress.i should be in the support group. Aspergers is a lifelong condition.i get severe anxiety because I cannot deal with people because of it.when you are in the work related activity group you are subjected to their various interviews and schemes which I cannot do.you will be reassessed regularly but my aspergers and severe anxiety is lifelong .it is not curable.i cannot just get over it.i would not normally join any forum or any group but I feel strongly that this forum and site provide a valuable service against the improper decisions of the authorities who sometimes make mistakes that cause suffering to those who already suffer enough.i will appeal but I should not have to.it should of been sorted out on the phone there and then.

Bad news on not getting in the support group... I am not a mod but do know about aspergers have been involved in the running of 3 school units as sen member on the board of governors during the last 20 years 2 children below 11 and one 4 to 16 ..... for my sins

you should have sent all 7 pages sods law the important parts are on the ones you did not copy.

you also have to remember there is a good chance all the atos dr and dm know about your problem they saw on "rainman"

most GPs working 40 years wont see more than 6 cases some none so you need to educate atos and the DM.. who in theory should know better ?

regardless of your age you should have also supplied a copy of you SEN and all pages that are conected with it, even if you left school 10 years ago because in the DWP a to z

It may be difficult to obtain recent medical evidence for adults with autistic spectrum disorder, when they have limited contact with their general practitioners or hospital services, since their general health is satisfactory. However for older teenagers and young adults some reports and previous assessments, including those made by educational psychologists, may be available in their medical records.

Thanks for your interest in my problem.I am 53 years old.Rainman was a austistic savant.I am would not consider myself like him.I find it hard to look at people or be with people. I am not superintelligent.I have high-functioning aspergers which is a condition on the autistic spectrum.I tried very hard to fill in the Esa form as correctly as possible with as much detail as possible.I worried that I would leave some detail out so I must of gone through it all a hundred times. There is no doubt in my mind that the Decision Maker made a decision not based on the official guidelines.
Criteria for support group WCA handbook section 2.3.1.14 "Coping with social engagement due to cognitive impairment.Engagement in social contact is always precluded due to difficulty relating to others or significant distress experienced by the individual. This Support Group decriptor reflects severe restriction of the ability to engage in face to face contact.Due to extreme anxiety or disorders of mental function where communication with others is impacted such as those with autistic spectrum disorder.Evidence should connfirm severe anxiety or a severe communication disorder."
The 2 page summary written by the Psychologist who tested me of my combined 6 hours of autistic spectrum assessment covers the difficulties in social interactions of Aspergers and the severe anxiety I suffer.
I am angry that I followed the rules but the Decision Maker did not.I cannot rest.I am channelling all my anxiety to present this information.I will appeal as I have no choice but to correct this decision. This is the truth about me.Maybe what I write here might help someone out there with similar problems

I am sure your not like rainman... but thats what your dealing with people who will put you in one of the few boxes they have and getting put in the wrong box/group is what you think has happened to you and happens to many people ... you need to get expert advise have you contacted the NAS? helpline or CAB ? there are also many local groups too... get a mod to aim you to the area of the site where the advice on how to appeal is published if you are a member ?

read a few posts and see how many other people have to fight and fight to get what they feel is the right group for them

Hi ENIGMA,

I'm not sure if you have already read the ESA Guides, if not, all the relevant guides, including appeals can be accessed from the link below :

I contacted the National Autistic Society in April. You can make an appointment to talk to an expert.I asked for their advice concerning the forthcoming ESA tests as I was on Incapcity Benefit. They directed me to the question 16 of Coping with social situations. The question was designed with autistic people in mind they said.I studied the details about question 16 which they have here on this site.I am now studying the appeal information they have here.
Last year I contacted my GP who put me touch with a local NHS psychiatrist who turn put me in touch with a Clinical Psychologist who had me assessed over 5 x 90 minute sessions (not 4 x 90 minutes which I wrote here earlier)I took longer then normal as I wanted the assessment to be accurate.I am a loner,I do not socialize,I do not join groups. But I felt very anxious and angry enough to write this.I should of been put in the support group not the work related activity group.I am doing everything by the rules.I will appeal. If any Aspergers or Autistic person is helped by my experiences or identifies with my problems here, well that would be a good thing.
