Dla and incapacity benefit expires July next year.

Hi, can anyone please help...my dla and incapacity benefit are due for renewal next July 2012..How long before this date shall I receive the renewal forms and also will I have to attend a face to face medical assessment,, I,m really apprehensive as I,ve heard people say that they are awful and they try and get you in a corner as best way they can..I have great trouble expressing myself and can find these circumstances quite stressful that I may say the wrong thing etc...???

DLA renewal forms are usually sent out four months before the reneal (it used to six).

There is no way way to know when you will be transferred from IB to ESA, whether it will be on, before or after the renewal date, however, unlike DLA, you will continue to receive IB until the transfer is completed.

Whether a medical is required for either benefit, will depend on your conditions and what evidence is available to the DWP to make a Decision.

To allay your concerns it might be beneficial for you to review the various claim guides in the Members Only area, so you are familiar with the questions on the forms you will be asked to complete, and have an understanding of the evidence you should think about collecting.

I have been sent the letter that I am to be transfered from IS and DLA to ESA, and will shortly be sent a form.

This notice is SEVEN months before my IS and DLA is due for review (I was awarded originally long-term per GP request and a condition which will not improve).

I am wondering:

1. If DLA renewal forms are usually sent out 4 months before renewal, does this time frame also apply to 'transfer from DLA/IB to ESA"?

Does the same time frame also apply to a "IS/DLA
transfer to ESA"? (eg for administration purposes, is the term IS and IB interchangeable, or the same rules apply).

Is my experience indicative that the time frame of four months before renewal/transfer has been increased to seven months has been changed/updated, or that the goal posts have yet again been moved?

2. If IB recipients continue to receive their award up until the transfer is completed, is this also true of those currently in receipt of IS and DLA?

What change can a recipient of IS/DLA expect in terms of their weekly income during the assessment phase of 13 weeks?
I am worrying and getting stressed, now.

From your post it sounds that DLA is discontinued during the assessment process, and the entire benefit package of IS/DLA is replaced with an ESA assessment rate equivalent to JSA.

I find this difficult to understand, as award letters clearly state what amount will be received (italics) because this is what the government says you need to live on.

Are people expected to be able to live on less just because of the fact that they are being transfered to a new program or assessed for qualifying for a new program?? I could understand that logic if individual circumstances change for the better someone might be able to live on less, but a change in program is not a change in individual circumstances?

recently processing my membership to bw.

I am not sure what you mean by not being able to answer specific questions, only general ones, as I have read many posts about people's individual circumstances that were answered with replies directed to their individual experiences and situations.

In any regard, perhaps it would help me to understand the rules of 'transfer' if I were to rephrase my questions in general terms.

1. Can claimants currently in receipt of DLA, as the result of a successful IB50 application, and who only receive an additional component of Income Support expect a notice of transfer from IS/DLA to ESA to be inclusive of a reduction of benefit to the ESA Assessment Rate?

2. Is a transfer from IS/DLA (awarded as the result of a successful IB50 application) to ESA considered to be a 'fresh application' to ESA, or is it considered to be a move from one benefit to another?
