in regards to phone calls from dwp, do you have to answer calls from dwp when migrated to see if you got letter. A friend of mine was harassed by the job centre three times a day until her care co ordinator spoke to the job centre then the phone calls stopped. Any thoughts on how to handle this. Many people are saying this is part of the dwp test, answer phone, you can deal with phone calls. they seem to harass until you pick up the form. :(

Although we can not answer specific queries, obviously it is up to the recipient of any telephone call whether they answer it or not.

If one has caller display it may help to indicate where the call originates from, however calls from certain numbers which. for example are routed through an internal switchboard, may show up as 'number unobtainable' (as opposed to number withheld which is where a 141 is put before dialling in the number to hide the origin of the call). The same is true of doing a bt 1471 check where the message is either 'we do not have the callers number' versus 'the caller withheld their number').

Of course one is free to decline to give anyone, including the DWP or other government departments their phone number (although it maybe wise to be ex directory as well). But remember when one makes a claim for any benefit one signs to say that certain information maybe shared with other government departments. This information may include ones phone number.

One can request in writing to such as the DWP that they only make contact with you in writing which the DWP should respect, so that maybe the way to go.

Whether the DWP would infer anything from one answering the phone is anyone's guess. However if one has categorically stated on a claim form that they never ever answer the telephone and then promptly answer a call from the DWP (or anyone for that matter) it may possibly cast some doubt on the worthiness of the original statement. Hence making the request that they make contact in writing only.
