ESA Medical was created by babyface1
Hi Everyone, this is my first post here, and I'm in need of some advice as to what to expect when I go for my medical next week.
This has been worrying me, as I have no idea what might be asked of me.
I suffer with Lupus, and a few years back was retired due to my health problems. At the moment my condition is stable, apart from the bad days that tend to crop up in between.
I didn't send in any evidence with my ESA 50 form, as I just wanted to get the form filled in and sent in, as there was a bereavement in the family.
My question is, do I take in the letters from when I was retired to the medical assessment, or would they be of no use.
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated

Thanks in advance for your time

Welcome to the Forum.

There is a list of questions that you are likely to be asked at the back of each of the ESA claim guides in the Members Only area.

You can take extra evidence with you to the medical, make sure that the ATOS "doctor" reads it as they are required to. You should also send a copy to your local DWP office with your name and National Insurance number on each page.

Hopefully some of the Forum members will let you know what their experiences of the ESA medical have been.

Thanks for your reply, Gordon.

I'll have a look.

You say that I can take extra evidence to the medical, but does it matter that all the letters I have are from about 4 years ago. Would I be better off asking my GP for copies of more recent letters, if possible?

You also mention that I should send a copy to the DWP - so I'm presuming that that would be the office that deals with my benefit. Out of interest, hope you don't mind my asking why a copy needs to go to the DWP - is this just to speed up the decision making process?

Thanks

More up to date information will serve you better, providing your GP will supply it.

Yes, you should send it to your local DWP office, as referenced on any of the letters you will have received from them.

We recommend that you send a copy to the DWP to ensure that it is avalilable to the Decision Maker. As your evidence is being supplied late, there is the possibility, that it might become seperated from your ESA50 or the file containing your claim.

Hope this explains it.
