DWP requesting Consultant's report

Hi, please could you give me some advice?

I have applied for renewal of my DLA (currently High Mob, Low Care), but my health has deteriorated significantly in the past few years. I had a 5 year award and hadn't wanted to risk rocking the boat by reapplying for a higher rate care before I had to.

I sent off my claim, using your guide, and provided lots of additional information and consultant's letters.
I've just had a letter back saying that they have written to my Consultant for a report.

I'm a bit worried as, whilst I'd talked to my GP and given them a list of how my condition affects my care & mobility needs, when I'd spoken to my consultant she'd said that she won't comment on care needs, as she couldn't reliably assess them. All she would write would be 'that I had a serious condition which had a significant impact on my daily life.'

I'm slightly worried now. Firstly, is this normal? and secondly, are the DWP likely to accept this answer, or will they then make me have a medical?

Thanks

It's not unusual for the DWP to contact a Comsultant for a DLA claim.

I wish I could off more comfort with regard to how their response will be viewed and as to whether a medical will be required, but the truth is that every case is different, and you'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I know from personal experience how worrying the wait can be, but I am sure you have done everything you could.

Good luck

Gordon

Hi Caf

If it's any consolation, I'm in a similar situation. My GP strikes through all the DWP forms received at the surgery with 'Not Known', but has written a detailed report which I attached to my DLA application.

So the DM will receive an extremely contrasting set of evidence from the same medical professional. I've now been made aware the DM has contacted two of my consultants (so I would imagine my GP report was of limited help to their decision process). Both these consultants will only confirm my medical treatments and not my care needs. So mine should be an interesting decision (it's either going to be no, or are you having a laugh) :)

Thanks Doris

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too Doris!

It's an added worry, now that they are linking Blue Badge expiry dates to the end of your awards that, if they don't make their mind up soon, or turn me down, them I'll have to go through a medical to get that renewed as well!
