Unbelievable!!! Kicking someone when they're down! was created by jed_marie@hotmail.com
My son age 33 finally sought help after years of alcohol and substance abuse leading to eractic decisions etc.
He held down good jobs during this time and decided to go for help to the doctor and was signed off sick in January so he could deal with his issues.
His work let him go as within the temporary period and he was referred to a pyschiatrist who has diagnosed him with depression, elements of bipolar, emotional disturbance and alcohol/substance abuse with eractic behaviour.
During this time he became homeless and is currently in temporary accomodation.
He is now seeing a community pyschiatic nurse, homeless mental health team and got further apptointments for pyschiatrist as well as doctor who is providing sick lines saying he is unfit for work.He has been put on medication too.
He attended an atos medical recently and the nurse who assessed him told him she would be recommending that he was unfit for work at the moment.
Well he received a letter today to say his benefits are stopping as he scored NIL for pysical and mental health!!!!!
Whats his next move???
Talk about kicking a person when they're down!!!

Hi HB,

Sorry to hear of your son's plight.

Please see information on appealing a decision of being found fit for work after an ESA Medical assessment from this post. :

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?func=vie...id=10&id=70444#70446

It would be advisable to appeal ASAP, and your son will need Med Certs from his G.P. while appealing.

He should then receive Assessment Rate of ESA whilst appealing which I believe is £67.50 per week.

Or he may be able to claim JSA, if he doesn't wish to appeal.

If you have any general questions regarding this issue after reading the guides, please come back to the forum, and we will try our best to help.

Hi HB,

Just to add to my previous comments, it may well be worth while your son approaching his CPN, as they can be most supportive in claims and appeals for ESA.

Maybe the homeless mental health team could be of assistance too.

Then of course he can ask his Pyschiatrist, and G.P.

Well worth a try, maybe you could contact them on his behalf, if he's not up to it.

I'm sorry that your son has had this knockback. a huge 'well done' to him for facing up to his problems and getting help.

Good luck with the appeal (if you decide to go down that route).

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hiya, please don't fret too much as all is not lost. My hubby has Primary Progressive MS, he struggles to walk, has incontinence problems and a list of other syptoms and he also scored 0 points at his medical. I nearly dropped through the floor when i read the letter.
We have put in an appeal so our money has been reinstated and we got in touch with welfare rights they act as your representatives. We have also gone to see his doctor who has done a in depth letter stating his syptoms and problems again.
Good luck with it all x

Thanks for all the reply's - my son is meeting the housing homeless person tomorrow and he has contacted his cpn for her to visit - i can download an appeal form for him here thanks to this site.
Understandably he is worried that forms etc won't go through in time for his next due benefit date for him to get money to live on!!
