Question about filling in form ESA50 was created by k9feline
Hello I am a new member of this site. I am in the process of trying to fill in my ESA50 and am finding it difficult especially because of the importance of making Atos see I am ill.

I suffer with depression, stress etc etc but am not receiving any help apart from seeing my doctor every couple of months. I do not have family or friends around me as I live alone and do not have a care worker/social worker, so there is nobody checking up on me to see how I am coping etc.

A lot of the questions on the ESA50 seem to relate to how you cope & the amount of support received from health professionals or family. As I have neither I am worried that as I am having to self-manage myself will Atos think I am well because I don't have anyone helping me?

I have got your various factsheets etc and am using them to guide me through the completing of the form. But any help/advice somebody reading this post (if you're in the same position as me that would really help me) can offer would be welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

My claim is based on mental health issues mainly.

I have recently filled out another ESA50. I tried to say what I couldn't do and why. Just try and be honest about how your disability affects your life.

Can you ask more specific questions?

Best wishes,
Rachel

Welcome to the forum.

A lot of our members are struggling to find relevant evidence to support their claims, however, many are still successful, so don't give up hope.

Do you see your GP regularly? If so then you can ask them to help you with the claim. You could request a report from them concerning your condition, or failing that, you can get a copy of your medical records from the practice and see if any of this can be used.

Have you ever seen a Consultant, etc. in relation to your problems, even if was some time ago? There should be copies of any letters they sent your GP in your notes, as above.

Are you on medication? A regular prescription for a relevant medication, would help support your case.

With regard to the ESA50, you will need to think a little out of the box! So give some thought, not just about how your disabilities affect you, but what assumptions might be made because of what you have said, or not said. Have a look at the WCA Handbook in the Members only area, on how the ATOS "doctor" will assess you.

Hopefully some of the members in a similar situation will add their own suggestion s to your thread.

See if there is a MIND centre in your area, they may be able to advise and support you through the process. Or any self help/support groups in the area.
Think about the things that you have difficulty with. Isolation, meeting other people, motivation, apathy, daily living
Lots of luck to you
