DLA renewal for child with Epilepsy was created by glezza
To cut a long story short my child has been awarded DLA since 9 years old when diagnosed with Epilepsy. Her award has been renewed twice with only a standard renewal form. Her current award ends in December when she will also reach age 16 and in DWP's eyes can claim in her own right. I sent in renewal (under my name as it has always been) and this has been turned down, though her circumstances have not changed. I challenged this and it was supposed to have been reviewed but just received letter saying it is still not going to be renewed. I asked if this is because claim is in my name which they were cagey about and have confirmed that we can put in a fresh claim in her own name. I have decided to appeal this but still not sure this is my best course of action. Having seen the appeal form the box for why you are appealing is so small I doubt I can fit anything useful into it !
Would I be better off giving up on an appeal and just starting a fresh claim in her own name, but being extra careful (I thought I already was !) and making sure form is filled out according to all the guidance on this site. Would love to hear anyones views or similar experiences before I send back appeal form. I only have 3 weeks to do this. Thanks

Hi Glezza

I can't advise about DLA claims and appeals but I can say that you are not limited to the size of the box on the GL24 form. It does say on the form to continue on additional sheets and I would simply write 'see additional sheets' in the box and state how many sheets are added.

Regards

Derek

Ah yes, thanks Derek, it does say that but I had overlooked it. Would it be advisable to send back by recorded post ?

There's been much discussion on the forum concerning postal options which you can find by searching.

At the very least you should obtain a Certificate of Posting (which is free) as proof that you sent it on time. You can for added piece of mind send it recorded delivery to confirm that its been received and signed for.

I can't remember what registered post is!

Thanks again will make sure I have proof of posting.
Is there a better place on this forum where I may find more related discussions on similar cases and if so what would be the best thing to search for DLA or more specific?

You need to be more specific as DLA will produce a lot of general results.

You have to experiment with the search facility and try a few different words related to what you are searching for.
