WRAG to Support Group

WRAG to Support Group was created by Fedup
I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and was put onto the Work Related Activity Support Group after appealing in April 2011.
Since then my illness has been getting worse and I am now wondering if in fact I should be in the support group as there is no way that I can even consider work, but when I asked about it I was told that the only people who get put onto support group are people with terminal illnesses and incurable diseases. Is this true? How do I appeal against being in wrag. I am also awaiting a tribunal for DLA which I appealed a decision in April 2011 and after calling them found out that it could be at least another 3 months before I hear anything.

It's possible to be put in the Support Group, for a variety of reasons, only one of which is that you are terminally ill. A full list of criteria is available in the Understanding ESA guide, page 24 onwards.

Have you actually had your medical yet for your current ESA assessment? If not, then you're jumping the gun with regard to an appeal. :)

If you want to understand the appeal process in more detail, have a look at the ESA Appeals guide.

Hi Fedup

No, it's not true that only people with terminal or incurable illness get into the SG. Please see Page 22-27 of the Understanding ESA guide in the 'members only' section. This explains in detail the criteria to get into the SG.

It's too late to appeal the tribunal's ESA decision of April 11. You can write to the DWP and inform them of a change in circumstances (worsening health) and ask for a supersession and a reassessment if you feel that you meet one or more of the SG descriptors. But you need to bear in mind that there is a risk that you could lose the award that you already have and it would probably be best if you seek face-to-face advice.

PS: Could I ask you to change your forum name or add a digit to it as there is already a member called Fedup and it may cause confusion. You can do this by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with a new forum name.

Sorry Fedup, I thought you were Rachel, who used to be Fedup but it appears, no longer is.

Part of my answer, was based on Rachel (ex-Fedups) posts and do not apply to you.

Don't worry Gordon, I'm sure that we have a lot of members who are well and truly "Fedup" with this whole ESA charade.

Cheers :)
