Hi Pete,

That would be great if you could find the paperwork regarding priority treatment. I will give Combat Stress a ring this afternoon and see what they suggest. I have just downloaded the GL24 and will get it sent off as soon as poss. Thank you for being so kind. I seem to remember not so many weeks ago that the gov said that they would do everything they could to make sure that veterans had access to all the benefits that they were entitled to - or was I just dreaming and interpreted it all wrong?? Thank you again Pete it is really appreciated. Susie

Hi,

No problem.

I will dig out the necessary references on his rights to priority treatment a bit later (am in a lot of pain atm).

Hopefully we can set him on the right track to getting his situation sorted out.

Regards

Pete

Hi,

Whilst still fresh in my mind, I have just dug it out:

The right to Priority Treatment for War Pensioners is as laid out in Health Service Guideline (HSG) - HSG 97/31.

A copy of this document can be found here (although in the National Archives it is still relevant).

webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www...asset/dh_4012391.pdf

This right was further extended in January 2008 by virtue of NHS Gateway Reference No 9222 dated 12th December 2007 to:

All veterans are entitled to priority NHS treatment for any condition related to their service. This includes veterans who do not receive a war pension. Priority treatment includes assessment, treatment, aids and appliances for conditions accepted as originating from their service.

A copy of the NHS Gateway Reference letter from the Chief Executive of the NHS is here:

www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_d...lasset/dh_081268.pdf

It would be an idea to print off both these letters as authority to give to the GP or any NHS facility or hospital where your son seeks treatment.

Regards

Pete
