Hi all,
Am really stuck on the explaining illnesses and disabilities what they are and how they affect you. How do you explain 17 years of different problems in words? Do i mention within this problems with meds, hopsital admissions therapy, suicide attempts etc? I am not sure what to say, also illnesses have never stablised. This is a nightmare, because my illnesses affect me hour to hour and i can never predict what i can be like from morning to afternoon to evening on any day. Thing is as well, i do see my gp on a regular basis as well as other professionals on a regualar basis, but i struggle to do this, i get very anxious and stress, lose train of thought and get very emotional and teraful and do not use a lot of eye contact.
I also tend to cancel gp appointment if the one i see on a regular basis is on sick leave or on holiday, as i am not good around people i do not know, but to be honest i find it an ordeal being alone in the room with her, and at times have needed someone with me.
I stuggle to get there and the waiting room and speaking to the receptionist is a nightmare and this is a gp sugery for 27 years.
I am about to see my care co ordinator tomorrow and the last appointment made me paranoid as they keep asking things petaining to the questionnaire. It feels like i am in a mini medical with them, and the pressure i am under at the moment i am liable to snap. Having to take someone with me for that because really anxious or stressed.
Feel a right idiot! :(

Hi,

We cannot under any circumstances tell someone how you should answer a particular question. It has to be your answer in your own words.

However saying that, do remember your answer does not have to fit in the 'little box' on the form and you are free to add extra sheets of information, even if it takes multiple sheets to answer only one question.

Thus if your illnesses/injuries etc are over a long period and complex then your answer would probably need to reflect this.

Pete

I'd add to this, whilst it isnt apropriate for anyone to be told how to answer questions, the users guides give examples of how to express the sort of problems frequently experienced by those claiming disability benefits, and they are worth reading.
Many people have toi have medicals or lose benefits because they simply do not express their difficulties effectively and so these3 user guides are invaluable to assist any completion of forms etc
