I am trying to complete the form for renewal of my DLA. I seem to remember reading somewhere that they have a points system and that the number of "YES" boxes you tick affects the claim.
Can you confirm or deny this please?
Thanks
Hi,
There is no 'points' system for DLA. It is awarded based on ones needs, mobility and/or care. Ticking boxes does not 'score points'
The 'points' assessment is in relation to ESA where one needs to score a minimum of 15 points to be awarded benefit.

Many thanks. A weight off my mind.
Hi jimbo
As a new member you should read the advice on completing DLA forms in the Members Only orange section, which explains the danger of relying on just ticking boxes.
DLA forms are very long and repetitive, so the B&W guides will give you the best possible help.
Knd regards

I also noted this morning that there are updated guides (November) whereas I had previously downloaded and used the April guide. Is there much difference that I need to worry about?

I have been completing my form in conjunction with the guides I downloaded. It was just that I'd heard that if not enough yes boxes were ticked, with or without additional comments, then that would affect the claim.

Hi Jimbo
With DLA its the needs you require from someone else, whether you get that help or not. A medical condition on its own is not usually adequate to qualify.
I'm sorry I don't know the difference between the April guides & November guides. I would advise you to use the lastest ones.
The guides have been written to give claimants the best possible help when applying. We don't operate a Welfare Rights service, so if in doubt, please consult a WRO at an Advice Centre.
Naturally we aren't able to tell you what you should put in the boxes, but as I said there is warning about only ticking boxes, as the DM will need full information as to your needs, in order to decide your claim.
Regards
Michael
