Kate.

Please don't take offence, as I do agree that being repeatedly called 'poor love' does sound patronising and nothing like what one might expect from an Atos assessor ... I am sorry I can't help smiling.

Do you think there is anyway that the examiner genuinely felt sorry that you were being subjected to such an ordeal, hence the more human approach of not being glued to the computer screen? (Obviously I wasn't there and you were.)

I would probably wait until you receive the decision/prognosis (review date) before complaining but the whole experience has clearly upset you and maybe a complaint is warranted whatever the outcome.

Many years ago I went to an IB medical at which I allowed a very handsome young doctor to somehow charm me from being a tearful wreck in the waiting room to someone who merrily engaged in some farcical little exercise routine. If it had gone on much longer I may well have offered to take my clothes off and lie on the bed!

Needless to say - I failed the medical (no mention of the tears, my psychiatric referral etc) and despite my IB being reinstated after a reconsideration, I am still battling to come to terms with the ongoing deterioration in my mental and physical health courtesy of the whole inhumane system.

I would strongly advise everyone, especially anyone prone to rapid mood changes to find someone (a CPN/key worker if you have one) to accompany you to an assessment to support you/take notes etc.

Kate - I really hope you remain in the support group (and hopefully without having to go for a medical next time.)

Best wishes

Catherine, your experience sounds awful.I am really glad your IB was reinstated, and am sorry to hear of the effect the whole hideous episode had on your health and well being..I have complained already, striking while the iron was hot, so to speak. Am still unsure and will be until the report from my interview comes through, whether it was all an act or a performance on the assessor's part!.This is a political system and on no account do I think anybody should hope or expect otherwise.
To everyone reading, take Catherine's advice and don't go alone to these things, unless of course you are sure you will be okay.
Best wishes Catherine.
