Dla & Ileostomy was created by steve
I have a client who has just lost her dla m/c Lm because the DM states her disability doesnt prevent her from cleaning herself at night when she has leaks. This happens almost every night and causes stress and upset surely reasonable help is required with laundry and cleaning. Anybody got any views on this.

Hi Steve

You don't say how this came about in your client's case. Was it removed on renewal of DLA for instance? In which case if within time limit, she could appeal the decision. Please see here -

How to submit an appeal

As the DM has said your client can clean herself, it will be necessary to show convincing evidence that she needs help from someone else, presumably at night.

The guides to claiming and appealing DLA are in the orange Members Only section.

You may wish to read through the A-z of medical conditions and reference them to Care & Mobilty Considerations here -

www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-g...-medical-conditions/

Kind regards

Michael

Please also refer to the section entitled DLA resources.

Scroll down to the Disability Handbook and take a look at chapter 25 which may be applicable in your clients case? Although this handbook is quite old, it it is still likely that the mobility/care needs arising from an ileostomy will still apply.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Thanks Steve

Although we aren't able to give specific advice on this forum and you will know your client's personal circumstances better, may I suggest that you have a look at the links above, which should enable you to advise your client accordingly.

As you will know, if help is needed from someone else, maybe due to incontinence, in this case to clean oneself, the help has to be required, but your client doesn't actually have to get that help. Its the needs arising that are important.

My apologies, I actually missed the heading reference to an Ileostomy.
