GP APPALLED!. was created by bluejay52
A few weeks ago I received my ESA form to fill in after the dreaded telephone call.
I filled it in as much as possible, and with supporting information & sent it off in a stuffed A4 envelope.
Last week I received a letter from them saying that I was to be moved into ESA from IB, and put directly into WRAG without a medical. I was devastated, so yesterday I rang my GP and asked for a letter of support, this morning his secretary rang me back and asked what I put in the letter--WELL to say the least he is very unhappy and is composing a letter of support for me.
I would like to ask the moderators if I should keep this letter in case I need to go to appeal,or just ask for a reconsideration, without this letter or both.
many thanks.

It seems you expected to go into the Support Group.
You need your GP to understand the type and extent of difficulty that qaulifies for the Support Group, and that his letter of support needs to ensure it covers your difficulties in such a way that the DWP appreciate you have a very good argument for the Support Group.

Have a look in the user guides and print out the relevant page and show the GP

I would appeal anyway, the decision will be reconsidered as part of the pre tribunal process, though you need to remember there is always a small (it is VERY small) chance that your not fit for work status could be changed )

I beleive you have 28 days to appeal (it should say bit in theb letter you received) make sure uyou do it in time

Personally I would send a copy of your GP's letter with your appeal form GL24/letter. This should help support your appeal. I would keep the original for your appeal, if it comes to that. The DWP do consider your appeal letter and info with it before deciding. If you get CAB involved, though if it goes to appeal, they usually request supporting medical evidence from your doctor etc

In my case the head of doctors' practice would not give me a letter of support only my medical records print out...she will only write letters to the DWP. I am however seeking help from CAB, so may get some help from a doctor's letter, but I'm not holding my breath, as my doctor knows nothing about me or my condition despite being a patient for 9 years, having various problems with health, 2 ops and several hospital stays.

Good luck!

With regard to the letter, as suggested it would make sense for your GP to be aware of the Support Group criteria, the more that he is able to relate his letter to the descriptors the better. However, you should be cautious of prompting what he writes and this could act against you.

Our normal advice is for a claimant to lodge and appeal rather than just a Reconsideration, as the request for an appeal will trigger a Reconsideration anyway.

Many thanks Gordon.
I have just spoken to the doctors secretary and he is compiling a composite letter.
It is worth mentioning that my letter from the DWP was dated the 5th November, but I didnt receive it till the 11th so ive lost six days already to reply.
Many thanks.

Just to sy that Gp has composed a composite letter of support(£30).
He has outlined all of my medical problems, but highlighted my mobility issues and spinal problems aswell surely this will be enough to be transferred into SG...any ideas
Thanks to all!!!!
