ESA and other income was created by carruthers
Suppose you were deemed sick enough to get ESA(CB) and entered the WRAG or even the SG.
Is the amount you get affected by any other income - e.g. child support payments or an occupational pension?

Hi,

Sorry we cannot comment on Child Support payments as that is not a benefit we deal with in B&W.

With regards to Occupational Pensions,
some Incapacity Benefit claimants, who were in receipt of IB prior to April 2001, will have had any occupational or personal pension disregarded as income.

If this is the case for you, then your pension income will also be disregarded with regard to ESA on the assumption that you are successfully transferred to ESA and you maintain your claim.

The disregard forms part of the Transitional Protection available to claimants being transferred, and will last while the claimant remains entitled to ESA(CB) or April 2020, whichever is the later.

Otherwise for any Occupational Pension in payment of over £85 per week, £1.00 will be deducted from ESA for every £2.00 of pension.

Also some other payments can be deemed as overlapping benefits with ESA and can reduce the amount of ESA received, however you should be aware of this if it maybe so in your own particular case.

My ESA payments are reduced due to my pensions to the effect of only recieving £24 p/w, so yes if you are on ESA(CB)it will be affected.

If you mean child maintenance, then no, that isn't taken into account any more.

Best wishes,
Rachel

Does the income taken into account for ESA mean household income or personal income only?

Hi C,

It's household income.

See information on this page, and the link within regarding 24 hours working rule for a partner.
