Hello again

I promised I would update about my CAB visit to discuss my appeal.

They were very helpful and luckily it did not matter that I was at the end stage in the process. Not sure why I managed to get help and others havent at this stage, but I didn't want to query it and end up losing my appointment!

The main advice I will pass on to others was to be really objective about any evidence you have supplied to support your claim. The advisor read my medical letters out loud and 'picked holes' as she went. Although this seemed harsh and incredibly picky, she said that is what a Tribunal may do. For example, I have been diagnosed with 5 different long term conditions by consultants. My letters, however, although mentioning this and the problems I have associated with the conditions, do mention other things which could be taken out of context as fact (eg. sleep pattern is improving due to a particular drug I've been put on), and used to back up the theory that your needs are not as great as you make out. So I was advised to elaborate on any point which could be misinterpreted.

For the sleep example, the pattern has improved, but I actually have greater difficulty waking in time to get to the loo. this is written in my claim pack, but she suggested I cross reference to explain the consequence. The consultant is aware of these consequences too, but until it was pointed out yesterday, I hadnt realised he had not mentioned it in the letter. I naively thought they would just put 2 & 2 together - but she said you have to make it very obvious to remove any doubt.

The advisor also suggested asking for updated copies of letters of support, explaining to my consultants & GP that I've lost my High Rate and to give them main bullet points of the effects for further evidence. I know this will cost me but it will be a small price to pay if I win the Tribunal. I do have a strong case, but I have to make sure anything that is ambiguous is clarified.

I hope this is useful to others :)
