DLA, does anyone here on ESA not claim ?

I have been on IB, and now ESA, for 12 years, but never knew I could try and claim DLA too. Does anyone here who is on ESA or IB not claim DLA too ? Or is it quite common for only one to be claimed ? I can't seem to see much difference as far as reasons to claim, other than one is means tested and the other not.

Looking at the FAQs it almost sounds identical to the process of going for ESA/IB. I know you are not able to comment on specific cases, but if someone could give me a personal opinion on the below then that is great.

If I were to give, when going to try and claim it, my ESA80A form do you think this would be enough ? It was written by a nurse going by my ESA renewal form and previous medicals (I didn't have a medical this time). On my form it says "long standing health issues are evident, taking strong medication to treat", or words to that effect. Sadly though because I am in WRAG there were loads of "no problem with...." and "can do this...", etc in her giving reasons why I shouldn't be in the support group. So would that likely have a drawback ? Or is the first part likely to be good enough ? They are on the same page and within the same report.

As I say, I know you don't know for sure, but just an opinion is fine, I won't take it as fact.

Thanks all.

EDIT : Don't think there is a way to edit my post, but regarding the form I think I should of said ESA85a and not ESA80a.

I am on IB/ESA and never even thought I might be eligible for DLA til you asked the question! I will note any replies with interest. :)

Good luck.

Hi Benson, I think you really need to read through the information on claiming DLA in the Members Only section.

The form is quite different from an ESA50 and I think it needs a different approach to fill it in.

I am on ESA and I have never claimed DLA despite being recomended to do so by my advisor at the job centre. It's just personal choice.

Best wishes,
Rachel

There is no reason why you should not claim DLA at the same time as ESA, as they are independant benefits, infact many of our members are in receipt of both.

I'm afraid we can't advise you whether it is a good idea for you and whether you would meet the requirement. See Why can’t you answer a question about my specific claim?

Have a look at the DLA guides for a better understanding of your eligibility. See DLA Claim Guides

when i first claimed incapacity 4 years ago i was advised by cab to also put in a claim for dla. to which i got both.
i dont see why anyone on ib or esa should not try for dla also but as gordon says different people have different requirements

good luck
