Hello Worried, sorry to hear of your situation regarding the request from DWP for you to have a medical here in France.

My wife will be in the same situation at sometime in the next 12 months, when her review is due, although I know that anybody can be reassessed at any time.

Regarding the situation with your medical to be held in France, I can only repost a link I posted in a previous post regarding your situation.

Link: www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/ib-reassessment-overseas.pdf

In this document if you scroll down to page 3 it clearly states that the claimant is entitled to have a medical if required, either in the EU country where they live, or return to the UK for the medical, but at their own expense. Were you given this option in any correspondence from DWP? If you were not given this option and you wish to have your medical in the UK, then I would contact DWP International section tomorrow, demanding that you wish your medical to be carried out in the UK and not France.

Hope this helps, and the best of luck.

Landlord

Hi Landlord,
Thank you for your support, I only received this letter from the capital of CPAM and have heard nothing
from DWP. perhaps in a couple of weeks i will hear from the u.k. either way if i don't turn up my benefit will stop according to my google translation.
At least i have a few days to come to terms with it.

Will she do a physical exam as well?
Didn't get any sleep and i am trying to convery my words into french. Cannot ask
anyone how it has gone for them as I am a bit of a recluse.Have been doing a lot of reading on the web, but nothing like my situation.

Hi Worried

In this country the DWP have a preffered contactor, who uses computerised software known as LIMA.

As getting benefits abroad are not something we are familiar with as B&W mods, personally I wouldn't like to say the approach the French doctor will adopt. However, I would imagine as you have been asked to attend a medical, you will be examined.

Is it possible for you to get a french speaker to accompany you? On the other hand the doctor may speak fluent English?

Regards

Michael

I'm not sure why this thread has been allowed to continue so long.

Firstly, as it asks for advice about medicals in France, it is a request for individual advice which we cannot give as is clearly explained in FAQ.

It is difficult for moderators to keep up to date, for benefits which can be claimed in the UK, let alone for an EEC country.

Therefore, I am locking this thread, which means no further replies are allowed.

The original poster should seek advice from either a French benefits advisor, or from one in the UK who has good knowledge of benefits which can be claimed abroad.

PLEASE READ THE SPOTLIGHTS AREA OF THE FORUM REGULARLY, OTHERWISE YOU MAY MISS OUT ON IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I have today got in touch with the DWP overseas dept and been informed that my assessment is the same as U.K except with a french doctor. My ESA50 has been sent here and the rules are the same. The dr will have the same guidelines and will return their assessement to DWP. I just thought this might help other people that are out of the U.K system.
I will post how the interview goes in case anyone is interested.
