DLA Mobility Component.

Hi,
My DLA Mobility component is due to expire 05/04/2012.

I have today 24/11/2011 received the form to complete to have my benefit extended, this is over 5 months in advance, I did not request the form. The letter says I should complete this as soon as possible. Is this normal? Or are they trying to remove my benefit early? Any comments would be gratefully received.

Hiya Josh,i received my dla renewal form to fill in 5 months early too. The dla have informed me this month im to receive it when it expires in december. Hope i have put your mind at rest.

It is quite the norm for the DWP to send out DLA renewal forms some months before the existing award comes to an end.

Further even though it is classed as a "renewal" you should treat it like a fresh claim, in that you don't assume that the DWP are still aware of your limitations/needs/ disability, and go into detail with regards to this.

Its normal for them to send out the forms well before your existing claim expires. I suppose its to make sure the there is continuity in paying your benefit. They sent me mine about 5 months before the renewal date of 17 December 2011. It takes 6 weeks to fill out the form!! Then add the 2 weeks I had because they'd sent me the form back as I'd forgotten to sign the bank details form, and then we had to wait until my GP had returned from his holidays. I got the decision a few days ago (its now 24 November) so the decision has been made not much before the renewal date. Jenny
