DLA for child with Epilepsy was created by glezza
Have appealed my daughters claim which was refused renewal despite her being awarded this for four years already.
DWP have sent a copy of a call they have made to Atos for advice and between them they have decided that she only suffers 3 or four attacks a year on medication (this is not the case and neither me nor her GP have given this information !) and Atos say this means there is a slight risk if she is allowed out alone without someone with her for support and guidance.
Does anyone know if they deem there to be a slight risk will her award be re-instated ? Have still not had their final decision

Please let me just say that my son suffered with it and I found him in bed one day having had a seizure in his sleep, not one I would wish on anyone else, so first and foremost medication NEEDS to be taken as prescribed. Obviously he had real bad ones, but I cannot see how any "doctor" that has done a 6 week course is in a position to make any assumptions where a life might be at risk.Medications do many different things to each and every one of us and so maybe she suffers side effects or even other reactions to her medications??. How do they know how many seizures she has in any year but to guess?? THAT is not what DLA is about but to try and make her life worth at least some living?? Go through their reasons and destroy them, both on paper and in your minds! Best of luck ...Eddie

See this link on DWP website which Health Care Professionals and Decision Makers use to help them decide on most medical conditions. In this case Epilepsy

The menu on the left of the page includes various aspects of epilepsy, including care and mobility considerations.

Hope this is of help.

Good luck.

Jim

Me coming on here to update last night must have been an omen.

I received confirmation today that my daughters appeal has been granted and she is entitled to her DLA middle rate care, lower rate mobility for a further two years.

I am so pleased that we didn't give up and that I found this site. The people here helped keep my spirits up when I was feeling down about this.

It is the beginning of a great new start for her as she will be starting college this year and can now do so knowing that she will still get the help and support that she needs.

Thank you to all who commented and for those who are still going through the process then do not give up.

As I am still a member here I will check back from time to time to see if anything I know can help somebody else.
