DLA renewal was created by Feelinghopeless
Hi, just received a letter with booklet explaining that my DLA runs out in April. It does not give a deadline to return form but says that if it is returned too late, they may not have enough time to look at my paperwork and make a decision before it stops altogether. I phoned my welfare rights officer how is booked up to the end of February, and she normally completes the form with me. Is this too late? Should I just complete it myself with the guides on the members only section. By the way, she completed my initial claim.

thanks

Mel

Have a look at the following FAQ

When should I send my renewal form back?

An electronic copy of the DLA form can be found in the following

DLA Claim forms

There is no reason why you shouldn't complete your own copy AND see what your advisor suggests, then decide what answer or combination of answers, to put on the form you are returning.

I spoke to my Welfare Rights Officer today and was shocked when she told me that the Government have now put limits on who they can see. This means that after March, the welfare rights team are not allowed to see anyone under the community mental health team! She helped me with two ESA claims and a DLA claim, followed by support when my initial DLA claim was turned down. From her support I was then put on HRC and LRM. My current DLA award runs out in April so she is seeing me in January, but this will be the last time she will be able to assist me with any benefit forms. This is such bad news because so much of their work is tribunal support. The local CAB have told me that they cannot deal with the workload generated from benefit claim forms, so apart from this site (thankfully) it seems that anyone with a mental illness has to struggle through the whole benefits nightmare alone - which is not really realistic when suffering a mental illness. Just when we thought it could not get any worse...............

I've also had a letter and form - for some reason I was expecting a short renewal form but it looks like the same, very lengthy form for new claims, which took me weeks to complete last time. No wonder so many people find it so hard to work their way through the benefits system.

Hi

The short DLA renewal form is/was being trialled in certain parts of the country. However, B&W suggest, that in any case, you complete the full form, despite the length and tediousness of the full form.

Members renewing should read the B&W guides in the Members Only orange section.

Thanks Michael. From what I was reading on when to submit the form, it looks like the early part of February would be a sensible time to submit. Thank goodness I don't have to think about doing it until after Christmas!
