I know there are idiosyncrasies between DLA payment and award dates.
In my case, my DLA award was made from Friday 9th Dec, but payment doesn't start until the first Wednesday (14th Dec). Has anyone ever challanged this ? For HRC and HRM thats a loss of nearly £80.

The DWP payment system handles part and full payments differently, so as the standard DLA payment date is a Wednesday, that would explain why it starts on the 14th, but I would expect them to also make an adhoc payment for the period 9-13, unfortunately these seem to take several weeks to arrange, so I would keep an eye on your bank account and if you have received nothing by the end of the year, give them a call.

Gorden. no payment is made for the period between the award date and payment start date.
This has been the payment system for dla and is for some time. if your award is increased the same payment rules apply.

Example : You're on LRC and upon review your award is increased to HRC. The date you origina LRC award finish's is the 7th Dec. Therfore you new award of HRC starts on the 8th Dec.

However, the DWP only commence payment from the next Wednesday after the award date ( in this case it will start from the 14th Dec). From the 7th until the 13th you will still recieve the old rate of LRC.

The same applys to new DLA claims. If your award was due to start on the 8th Dec and you're paid four weeks in arrears, you would only get payments from the 14th ( the Wednesday after your award date). Under DWP rules you dont get any money from the 8th -13th for new claims).

This has long been an issue, but it appears you cannot challange it.

Hi Doris

This is a benefits discussion and not a question for the forum. Accordingly I have locked this thread.
