I.B. longer than 4 weeks outside UK was created by Helger
I am an Irish citizen in receipt of long-term Incapacity Benefit and live fulltime in the UK.

My wife is an artist and gives painting classes twice a year in Turkey for 5 weeks.

As I can not be left at home for that period, I travel with her and I must say the warm weather is very beneficial to me.

Recently I mentioned at a Jobcentre inerview these travels and have now received a form BF5 but could not find any more information on Google about this.

Does anybody know if my travels impact on my I.B. or even if I am under "house arrest"?

Thanks for reading and maybe answering

Hi H,

You can receive IB for upto 26 weeks abroad, however you are still supposed to inform the DWP, even if you will only be away from home for a short period.

These matters vary from benefit to another, for example the rules are very different fot JSA from ESA and DLA.

As a general rule, if you will be unavailable to the DWP for a protracted period of time, then you should contact them.

The issue of travelling abroad is covered in Bro58's post.
