Re walking distance

Just wondering, because I am not able to walk far without getting chest pain/breathless,because of Angina and chronic Asthma, if this will this be dismissed under new rules. Due to the fact I have a GTN spray and 2 Asthma inhalors.
Once I use my spray, I can walk again until the next chest pain comes, but even going upstairs at home warrants my GTN spray.
How do I explain my discomfort and problems with walking, when I can walk.I am very worried thanks

Remember, it is only the distance that you can mobilise before the onset of severe pain/discomfort or breathlessness that counts, e.g. if someone can only mobilise 10 metres before the onset of the above mentioned, but can then manage say another 20 metres, it will only be the 10 metres that counts, not 30 metres in total.

Please bear in mind also, that it is not only walking that is taken into account, as you will see in our ESA Claims Guides, it is also mobilising using a manually propelled wheelchair unaided.

As it would seem that you suffer with respiratory problems, it may be advisable to make an appointment with your G.P., or Asthma Nurse if you attend an Asthma Clinic to discuss this.

You may be able to obtain copies of Peak Flow readings, Spirometry tests, etc. You may also have been graded on the MRC Breathlessness Scale.

If you can obtain copies of all these it may help to prove the level of your disability/limitations, and could be sent along with your ESA50 when you post it back to ATOS.

Hi, i too like you have asthma 4 inhalers angitil, rovastin, aspirin, gtn spray after heart attack. I also have severe knee probs, waiting for operation and bipolar.

I went to medical on crutches to knee probs, took all my medication over 20 diffferent types. Eventually recieved report, it states i can mobilise 200 metres. This is a joke because knee pain, asthma angina bad.

I scored over 20 [points, only 6 on phyical rest on Mental health.
I told the doctor i could only walk 30 metres with oup pain from knee asthma and angina.

I was put in Wrag, to late to appeal only got medical report last weeks 6 week after requesting by phone, leter.

The system is a joke. Hope u have better luck.

Hi NW,

This is why it is important that members who decide that they wish to appeal a decision, should ensure that they submit their appeal within the month deadline, even if they are awaiting requested reports.

It can be noted on the GL24 appeals form that the appellant is awaiting such reports, and intends to submit further evidence on receipt of said reports.

Once the appeals deadline is missed, it can be most difficult to submit a late appeal. On the other hand an appeal can always be withdrawn if the appellant so wishes.

Even without access to said reports, an appellant can draw the DM's attention to evidence already provided, and state how they feel that they fulfill the criteria of the relevant ESA descriptors.
