upcoming DLA Medical was created by debbie
I have a medical on Friday 23rd Dec after getting call from DWP sat. I have had HRC and HRM for 3 years now and reapplied in Oct as runs out Feb 2012.

Does anyone know the success rate for DLA medicals as I believe they can be quite tricky to get through and have any advise.

Thank you

Sorry Debbie, I can't find the figures you are looking for.

Hi Debbie,
I have a medical on 23rd also and I did not get a questionaire this time. Just a call centre phoning to ask if I could attend. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this? Makes me more nervous of the medical than ever!
Cheers Heather

Hi,

Figures for successful appeals vary from region to region. As a former DLA Tribunal Member for 10 years hearing DLA Tribunals in the North West, I can only put this down the quality of panel members, i.e Tribunal Judge, Medical Members (usually GP's) and Disability Members ( these may be disabled people with good DLA knowledge & training, carers, or now very rarely Welfare Rights Advisers)

The DWP do publish statistics on all social security benefits appeals, but can be extremely slow in publishing them online.

The most recent link I can provide is Disability Living Allowance Quarterly Statistics

I'm not sure if ATOS, the company contracted by the DWP to carry out medicals actually keep records of what you describe as 'success rate for DLA medicals.' as nothing on their web site to indicate this. However, from my Tribunal Service contacts, the current rate for successful DLA appeals is around 45%, but again, they do not state whether the claimant had a medical or not.

I have sat in on numerous medicals by ATOS doctors and despite what's often posted on the internet, I found the vast majority of medicals to be fair and reasonable, but not all. Can't really add to this

Hope this helps.

Jim

I've had three medicals, my most recent being Jan this year. I had a DLA80 form sent to me as a review in Nov 2010, returned it and then had the medical in Jan.

The HCP who came to my house was 'quite' pleasant, and was with me for about 45 mins. He carried out an examination in that asked me to perform certain actions etc. He told me as he left that I would hear the result within two weeks. True to his word, I received the decision, and I retained my HRM and HRC!

Try not to worry.
