which DLA claim guide is most appropriate for person with Asperger syndrome as main diagnosis?
mental health or physical disability.

The condition effects my son's mental and physical health. it is possible he also has ME/CFS but we have not sought a diagnosis. he also has severe dyslexia - is this regarded as relevant to a DLA claim ?

I used the B & W excellent claim pack previously for my son's DLA claim and he was awarded low mob/middle care for 4 yrs until his 16th birthday.

However the claim expires in a few days, and due to considerable other problems I have failed to complete and submit the forms. We phoned to say it would be late and have been told that no extensions are allowed.

As my son has severe sleep problems and is supervised at nights as well as days, I feel there is a case for high care.

thanks

With Aspergers as main diagnosis, I'd use the mental health guide. However, with DLA the diagnosis is secondary, what is paramount is the level of mobility and/or care needs you son has.

See A-Z of Medical conditions then check under Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Also, although now rather out-of-date, but see Disability Handbook Chapters 36 and 37.

These are used by DWP Decisions Makers to help them assess any likely care and/or mobility needs.

Good luck.

Jim
