INCOME SUPPORT TO ESA was created by aarmic
Happy new year to you all, hope you had a wonderful xmas break.

As the whole area of ESA is new and confusing to me i would just like to get some clarification on the subject of moving from income support to ESA. I have been on income support for a number of years due to having young children, during this time my health started to decline and i now receive HRM and LRC. In previous years i have had to attend WFI's and was told last September that as my children would be approaching 7 at the end of 2012 i would have to move on to ESA and that i would need to complete the application for this around April 2012 as the application process takes a number of week. I have since read from another website that if you are already receiving DLA you will not be reassessed for ESA, i am not quite sure if this information is correct and would just like someone to clarify this. Would also like to inform others that are in a similar position to me that in Oct 2011 i received a letter from DWP informing me that due to a recent change in the law WFI's would be conducted on a quarterly basis, and true to their words i have mine tomorrow. So if you find yourself being called in 3 months after your previous visit please dont be alarmed, they are just applying the new change in law.

Hi Aarmic

Thank you for your New Year wishes, the same to you too.

I'm not sure I can agree with the concept that if in receipt of DLA you will not be reassesed for ESA. Its possible that if you are on the highest rate of DLA Care Component, you may be exempt, but thus is not an authoritative statement.

B&W guides on ESA are here -
