How long before I get a decision re: ESA50?

Hi all,

Happy New Year!

Atos had me filling out my first ESA50 over the Christmas and New Year period. I filled it out with as much detail as I could and every one including my Support Worker feels I will automatically go into the Support Group because of the extent of my conditions and the amount of detail I enclosed.

However what I want to know is does anyone know approximately how long it takes before Atos contacts one next after the submission of the ESA50? Whether that is to let you know that a medical assessment will be necessary or whether one will go straight into the Support Group. It would just help me to have a rough idea so I can provisionally know what lies ahead as I have many hospital appointments etc. :(

Many thanks if you can help me. :)

It seems that this varies hugely so it is rather like the 'How long is a piece of string' question!

My situation is different from yours as I am a first time applicant. However, to give you some idea - I filled in my ESA50 in October and have not heard anything yet...

Many thanks!

It is still good to get even a rough time guide. I think the only answer is not to worry too much since my understanding is that a person continues to receive the same level of benefit that they are currently receiving until a final Decision is made.

My freind is a transfer from income support to esa. She got her transfer letter at the end of August, questionnaire had to be back by 26th October, she sent hers back on 19th and she has not heard anything since. Lots of people are waiting quite a while.
