Meg and Radhika - whoops, I didn't spot your posts until after I'd replied to Derek! Thank you both so much for your support - and the same goes for everyone else who took the time. I will give an update as and when this business is finally taken care of. I could so do without this added stress, but it has to be tackled and put an end to.
Many, many thanks.

Mimmy,

I really hope all goes well for you and you do seek legal advise, as the local authority may well need to look into all allegations,however, snooping through your bank account without giving you the chance to explain the alleged allegation, to me seems quite worrying,as this matter could have been cleared up without the invasion of your privacy and not to mention the added stress for you and your father.

All the best.

Radhika.

As I'm sure Crazydiamomd will agree, Customer Compliance Officers (CCO's) carry out a plethora of functions from spot checks to make sure 'customers' are receiving the correct amount of benefit.

CCO's also are the first line in investigating anonymous calls to the Fraud Line claiming 'customers' are claiming benefit(s fraudulently.

However, around 90% of anonymous calls, prove to have no foundation, and no further action is taken against them.

Need I say more ?

Cheers, Pata1. I guess that's reassuring on the one hand - I mean, how 90% of baseless allegations are rightly dismissed. On the other hand it's disturbing to learn there are so many false "tip offs" made in the first place - largely, it seems, by malicious callers who aren't willing to give their own ID. How many millions must get wasted following up all those false leads? However, in my case the accusation against me wasn't made anonymously - and I must say I was surprised and gratified at how readily the CCO told me where it had come from - so at least I have the option of seeking some kind of redress. The idea that an individual can go spreading hateful, potentially devastating lies about their neighbour - without said neighbour ever knowing who the source is, much less being allowed to ask them why - is really quite depressing.
In summary (I can't remember who first said this, and I've not got quote exact, I'm sure - but);
"The more I see of human beings the better I love my cat" ... present company excepted, of course!
