Simple question..hopefully!! was created by Gareth56
Given the proposal to time limit CB ESA to just one year and given the migration of IB'ers to ESA (CB or IB) there will no doubt be many IB'ers who have been on IB for several years and have not worked. Therefore unless these (long term) IB'ers are placed into the Support Group of ESA they will after their one year on CB ESA, (if they have a partner bringing home ~£150/week or work >24hours/week), be unable to submit a further claim for CB ESA unless they find a job to satisfy one of the National Insurance Contribution requirements that CB ESA demands because they won't be able to resubmit a claim for IB ESA due to the earnings of their partner.

Is that more or less the situation?

Hi, So let me get this right, I am currently on IB and being assessed for esa. If i dont get support group then i only get 12 months benefit as my wife works and earns over £150!!! That seems crazy and i bet if you do lose the esa payments after 12 months dla wont be far behind.

Yep !! :(

With regards to DLA, all working age recipients are due to be transfered over to the new benefit PIP in 2013, if the Welfare Reform Bill is passed in its current form, see :

When you say working age recipients to be transfered to pips, does that mean that if someone who is 65, will continue to get DLA if they have an indefinate award and will not be reassesed???

Thanks.

Radhika.
