Hi everyone, I would appreciate some advice please. I am an avid reader of this site, which is excellent by the way. However I recently had to have a medical for the transfer from IB to Esa and it was undertaken by a nurse. My previous medical three years ago was by a Doctor and whilst I haven't heard anything yet I wondered whether anyone might know why this time it was by a nurse. I am concerned that my conditions might not have been fully incorporated into the medical report.

Hi L23,

ATOS recruit Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Midwives, and Doctors.

They are then "trained" and become classed as ATOS HCP's (Health Care Professionals) / ADA's (Approved Disability Analysts).

From what I can gather, Doctors only are used in an assessment where the claimant has certain medical conditions. I am not certain what these medical conditions are.

My condition is neurological and I am sure that I read that anyone with a neurological condition should have their medical done by a neurologist. I will find out soon, possibly in May.

Hi at my ATOS assessment in August i was initially assessed by a nurse, I suffer from a fluctuating mental health condition, when I asked her what qualifications she had to assess me she told me she had worked in a prison for 3 years! totally stressed out by the whole experience I flipped out and she refused to continue as she felt threatened by me. I took time out to calm down and requested a different assessor. I wasn't prepared to be marked down as not attending. My second assessor was a physiotherapist who was very pleasant, but on seeing the paperwork while preparing for my appeal it became obvious that she wasn't listening/ didn't understand the complexities of my condition, and my first rather short assessment was completely missing, and my medical report is missing all the qualifications on the statements I made, making me appear a lot better than I am! My independent consultants (who have been assessing me for 5 years)deemed me unfit to work the same day as I received the letter saying I scored 0 points. I am still awaiting my tribunal hearing! My previous ATOS assessment was by a doctor with mental health knowledge so was awarded IB without a problem. Personally I'm not convinced that the training ATOS gives can identify medical issues that don't jump out and bite them, I would be prepared to expect the worst, and a trip to tribunal

You can make a complaint regarding the quality of the ATOS medical and the report produced. See
