PIP winners and losers? was created by woodsie
Hi!
Steve posted in the news about PIP winners and losers with a link to the draft discriptors for mobility which states the following:
Mobility component
To get an award of the mobility component you need to score:

8 points for the standard rate
12 points for the enhanced rate

e. Needs either –
(i) supervision, prompting or a support dog to follow a journey to a familiar destination; or
(ii) a journey to a familiar destination to have been planned entirely by another person. 15 points.

I take it as read that a Guide Dog is a support dog.

However in the guide to PIP it states the following:
Simple journey means travel to a familiar destination that requires walking and/or a single mode of
transport such as a bus. Complex journey means travel to an unfamiliar destination that requires a
combination of modes of transport (such as a bus and a train).

Guide dogs are not considered aids or appliances. They may, however, help an individual to follow a
journey safely and reliably.

Which one is right the guide or the draft discriptors because if the discriptors are right, am i right in thinking guide dog owners might be eligable for the higher componant if passes in law.

Whilst the PIP activities and points are still at the discussion stage, they post date the PIP guide by many months, so you should use the decsriptors.

Hi MS,

As Steve points out at the bottom of his news article here :

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/benefits-news/story/330

At this time they are drafts, therefore they may change.

There is not much to be gained by speculation.

It is far better to wait and see the final version.

At that stage Steve should have published a guide to claiming PIP.
